Daniel Lins was born on December 18, 1969 in Watertown, WI. A member of a large family (he was the fifth of six children) he grew up in a house that was always filled with music. Each member of his family played at least one instrument.
Besides being a student of music (see his Music Biography for more), he also did fairly well in school. After passing through Schurz Elementary School, and Riverside Junior High School, he graduated from Watertown High School near the top of his class, and with scholarships to college in hand.
During college at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, he met and married his first wife. They lived together off campus until they both graduated in 1994, at which time the y moved to Waukegan, IL.
Dan got an internship at Streeterville Recording Studios, and was soon hired as an assistant engineer. (See his Engineering Bio for more.) A couple of years, and a short separation later, Dan and his first wife divorced, and Dan moved into Chicago, closer to Streeterville, where he worked for seven years. While looking for a way to earn money during a brief unemployment period, he hooked up with Domenick Danza of Green Light Performing Co, and became the children's theater's primary Composer-in-Residence.
In 2001, Dan travelled to Denver, CO where he met several "internet friends" in-person for the first time. One of them, Kandi Cruz, soon moved to Chicago to live with Dan. A year later, they had a son, Coltrane Ellis Lins, and Kandi's older two children, Alexis and Mason, moved to Chicago to join the family. Another year after that, they returned to Denver, where they were married in a Handfasting ceremony, the Celtic equivalent of a wedding.
With Streeterville Studios going out of business, Dan found work at Teletech Video Corp, where he worked until 2007, when the family moved to Texas.
